Frequently Asked Questions about DaDesktop for Training
1. For Power Bi and VBA, is there Excel inside DaDesktop (DD)? (since MS Excel functions are necessary)
- No, MS Office isn't included inside DD (which runs on Win10 and Win11 Pro). You only get a DD virtual machine and a training room.
- The trainer(s) need to set up a free-trial MS Office account for all delegates.
- Alternatively, delegates can use their own MS Office account.
2. Can I copy something from my own desktop to my DD desktop?
- Yes, we've rolled out a straightforward method to transfer files from your local machine to the DD Desktop. The only small catch is that you can only move one file at a time at the moment. However, it's simple to pack everything you need into a zip or archive file, which can then be easily copied to your DaDesktop machine.
- If you're using cloud storage, remember to log out of your cloud account before cloning to all delegates.
3. Why is the text in DD blurry, unclear, or even invisible?
- If you're using Chrome, head to chrome://settings/system and turn off the Hardware acceleration option.
4. Do Trainers have access to the NobleProg wiki?
- No, according to the terms on https://hr.nobleprog.com/trainer/register, trainers are not granted access to the wiki.
- If you need to submit something for editing on the NobleProg wiki, just copy and paste it into an email to the trainer (sending a PDF is also fine).
5. Are there any domains we can whitelist when using proxy or content/network filtering to enable better working?
Yes! Please whitelist any domains that match this pattern:
- *.npg.io
-
https://dd4t.dadesktop.com
If you have more questions, reach out to DaDesktop Support.
6. How can I have multiple desktops when using DD, like Ansible Training?
- The trainer(s) can begin by configuring the DD instance (choosing RAM, CPU, and disk).
- Next, install Virt Manager or VirtualBox inside DD to create multiple virtual machines, and then configure the networking between them.
- Once everything is set up, you can clone the setup to delegates in a matter of seconds.
- If you need assistance, just contact DaDesktop Support.
7. What is the server capacity?
- It varies depending on the server hardware.
- For instance, 512GB of RAM can be divided into 3 instances of 512GB.
- Each server can have a maximum disk of 250GB, and each desktop gets 16 CPU threads; RAM settings are customizable.
8. Can I download the Video from the Training Recordings?
- Yes, you can now download recordings by clicking the three small dots next to the video player.
- The video includes the audio if you used the training room's sound.
9. Which browser should I used for DD?
- Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Opera all work smoothly.
- Browsers like Internet Explorer are not fully supported.
10. Why is there a huge delay using DaDesktop?
- Start by checking your network connection, since DaDesktop performance depends on your local speed.
- Confirm the server location too; when the coordinator sets up the desktop, they pick a server close to the participants.
- Turn off your VPN, or switch it to PAC mode. Also, disable any security software that might interfere with WebSockets, as smooth WebSockets communication is essential for DaDesktop.
11. Websocket is blocked or not supported by network
Accessing Remote Desktop depends on Websocket
- It might be your device blocking it. Check for settings or configurations that restrict Websocket. For example, on some Chromebooks, go to proxy settings; if the option "Use the same proxy for all protocols" is enabled, Websocket won't work (because it routes through a proxy for SOCKS host). Uncheck that option and leave the SOCKS host field blank. That usually resolves it.
- The issue could also be the network rather than your device. In that case, you'll need to speak to your network administrator and have them unblock Websocket.
12. What support do you have for GPU, ie for 3d applications, etc ?
- Have a look at this GPU page for details on GPU support.
13. Is there any potential issues or answers?
- Generally, using DaDesktop feels just like working on a regular Windows or Linux machine, but there are a few minor hiccups that can crop up with certain software applications in a training setting, especially related to cloning machines.
14. Do you support Mac compatible programs or Mac Emulation?
- No, we don't support Mac-compatible programs or Mac emulation, mainly because of the licensing complications that frequently arise.
