Transferring Files from Your Local Machine into DaDesktop
We've frequently heard from trainers who want to move files from their personal laptop or desktop straight into the DaDesktop environment. These could be slide decks, ISO images for setting up a nested virtualisation setup that lets you operate several servers and desktops, or any files you need for your training session.
We've now introduced a straightforward drag-and-drop file transfer tool in the latest Windows 10 and most Linux templates. Just grab files from your host machine (your own laptop or desktop) and drop them into the DaDesktop workspace.
At the moment, you can only send one file at a time. If you need to transfer multiple files, simply bundle them into a zip archive and drag that over as well. The transfer mechanism breaks large files into chunks for efficient sending, and performs best over a fast fibre connection. The original folder structure inside the archive is preserved.
On Linux templates, we currently don't place a desktop shortcut to the Uploads folder as we do on Windows. Instead, you'll find your transferred files in:-
/home/student/uploads-to-dadesktop
