DaDesktop

PC Farm (Bare Metal Hardware)

In addition to cloud-based options, DaDesktop can also give you direct access to physical bare metal desktops and servers.

This setup is designed for one physical machine per participant and has been deployed across Hong Kong in a variety of use cases where participants need to access:

  1. An entire server without virtualization, whether for performance gains or licensing requirements (ONAP, OpenStack)
  2. Devices that can't be virtualized, such as certain GPUs, Mellanox cards when firmware modifications are part of the training, other networking gear, and so on.

Moreover, this approach can be integrated into existing physical classrooms across Hong Kong with little change needed. It lets instructors get the classroom ready remotely, without having to be on site.

The cloud desktop that's normally run in the cloud can be pushed directly to participants' physical hardware.

Requirement for onsite deployment

To implement this, you'll need to buy physical control cables (known as ddnexus) at roughly 100 USD per cable for each desktop.

You can test this option by choosing Metal PC when setting up a Standalone or Fresh-start desktop.
